Fomo trade thesis: how to post one, and who will see it

A trade thesis on fomo is a written explanation of why you hold a token, posted with your real position attached. You can write up to 3,000 characters, post it from the token page or while buying, and update it until 3 hours after you sell. Other traders only see it in a token’s feed if your position is around 1,000 USDC or more by default.

What is a trade thesis on fomo?

fomo’s help center defines a thesis simply: “A thesis is your written take on a token.” It is the reason behind a buy, written by the person who made it. What makes it different from a tweet or a forum post is that fomo attaches your position automatically. Anyone reading it sees the token, its current value and your PnL next to your words, so the argument and the result sit side by side.

That design fits the rest of the app. fomo is built around seeing what other people trade: the fomo social feed shows trades with the trader, token, amount and PnL, and the trader leaderboard ranks results. A thesis adds the one thing those screens cannot show, which is why someone bought.

How do you post a thesis on fomo?

fomo documents two places to start a thesis. Both require a position in the token:

  1. From the token page. Open the page of any token you hold a position in and write your thesis there.
  2. While you buy. fomo says you can also post a thesis during the purchase flow when you buy a token, so the reasoning is written at the moment you commit money.
  3. Write within the limit. You have 3,000 characters “to make your case”.
  4. Post. Your position details are added automatically; you do not type in your entry or your size.

Because a thesis needs a holding, a brand-new account cannot post one until it has funded the balance and made a first buy. If you have not created an account yet, the order matters: the sign-up guide explains why to open a referral link before creating the account, since the fee discount can only attach at sign-up.

Who sees your thesis, and where?

fomo says a thesis appears in three places. Who actually sees it depends on where they look and how big your position is:

Where it appearsWhat readers seeVisibility caveat
Your profileYour thesis with the position attachedNone described
The token’s feed tabTheses from holders, newest version first; readers can filter the token page for theses or for people they followMinimum position size filter, around 1,000 USDC by default
The global social feedYour thesis alongside the token, its current value and your PnLAutomated spam scoring can keep a thesis out of feeds

Followers get one more view: fomo says traders following you will see the newest version of your thesis. fomo’s notifications article also lists thesis mentions among the items collected in the in-app activity center. How to choose which of those alerts reach your phone is covered in our guide to notifications in the fomo app.

Why is my fomo thesis not showing?

This is the most common surprise, and fomo’s help center explains it. A thesis can look posted to you while other traders never see it. There are two documented reasons:

  • The position is below the size filter. A token’s feed applies a minimum position size filter that sits around 1,000 USDC by default. A thesis on a smaller position can still appear on your own view of the token, but not in the feed other traders read.
  • Spam scoring hid it. fomo says automated spam scoring can keep a thesis out of feeds, for example when an account has posted repetitively over the previous few hours.

If your position is above the size threshold and the thesis still does not show, fomo’s advice is to contact support with the token name and roughly when you posted, so the team can check your account.

For a new trader the practical takeaway is that a thesis on a $20 position is mostly a private note. That is not a bad thing; it is a free trading journal attached to the exact trade it describes.

Can you edit or update a thesis?

You do not overwrite a thesis; you add updated versions. fomo says you can post an updated thesis any time while your trade is open, and for up to 3 hours after you close the position. After that window, the record is fixed.

The full history stays visible on the token’s page with the newest at the top. That makes a thesis harder to rewrite after the fact than a social media post: if you bought for one reason and the price did something else, readers can see both the original take and every change. fomo’s article does not describe deleting a thesis, so treat anything you post as permanent.

How should you read other traders’ theses?

A thesis is a better signal than a bare trade in the feed, because it shows reasoning and a live PnL together. It is still one person’s opinion about a volatile token, and fomo’s own copy trading material warns that past results do not guarantee future ones. A few checks keep a convincing post from turning into an expensive trade:

  • Check when it was written. A thesis posted at a much lower price describes a trade you can no longer make.
  • Read the update history. Newest is on top. A thesis that changed its reasons three times is telling you something.
  • Check the token yourself. Look for the verified checkmark and any warning label; our guide to what fomo token verification means explains what the checkmark does and does not promise.
  • Count the cost. Acting on a thesis pays the normal fee in and out: 0.50% on most chains plus network fees, and tiered fees on small Solana orders. The numbers are on the fomo fees page.
  • Watch for promotion. Someone who already holds a thin token benefits when others buy after them. The patterns to avoid are on our page about fomo scams and token traps.

Following someone because their theses are clear is reasonable; nothing about following buys for you. How that works, and why fomo describes it as manual rather than automatic, is explained in fomo copy trading.

Is posting a thesis worth it for a new trader?

Yes, mostly for your own benefit. Writing down why you are buying, what would make you wrong and where you plan to exit is a habit that helps more than any feature, and the thesis box puts it right inside the purchase flow. Because the position and PnL attach automatically, you can come back later and compare what you expected with what happened.

Two limits are worth knowing before you rely on it. Small positions stay out of token feeds, so do not expect an audience until your trades are larger than most beginners should risk. And everything you post is tied to your public trading record, so do not write anything you would not want next to your PnL. If you plan to buy meme coins on fomo, a short thesis on each one is a cheap way to slow down before a fast decision. Fomo trade thesis questions

Can I post a thesis on a token I do not own?

fomo only documents posting from a holding. Its help center says you post a thesis from the page of a token you hold a position in, or during the purchase flow when you buy it. Your position is attached automatically, so there is no thesis without a holding behind it.

How long can a fomo thesis be?

Up to 3,000 characters, according to fomo’s help center. That leaves room for a reason to buy, the main risk and an exit plan, but not for a long research report.

Will my followers be notified about my thesis?

fomo says traders who follow you will see the newest version of your thesis. Its notifications article lists activity from accounts you follow and thesis mentions in the activity center, but it does not promise a separate push alert for every thesis.

Can I delete a thesis after posting it?

fomo’s article on posting a thesis does not describe deleting one. It does say your full thesis history stays on the token’s page with the newest version at the top, so write each update as if it will stay visible.

Does a thesis change the trade itself?

No. A thesis is text attached to a position you already hold. It does not change the price you paid, the fee you were charged or how the trade settles.
